Storywriting - Paul Graves

  • Registration
    before 1.8.2019
  • Dates of the course
    23. - 25.8.2019

You have a story to tell, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction—why not write it in English? We’ll practice and discuss how to bring characters and settings to life, make dialogue natural and intriguing, and frame your story through point of view and structure. We’ll also wrestle with a few grammatical problems and think together about appealing to English-language readers.

MFA, university lecturer Paul Graves

Pre-Course Activities
Participants are encouraged, but not required, to submit an English-language story (fiction or non-fiction), about 600 words long and including two characters in one location. Anyone doing this task should send the text, two weeks before the course begins, to opintotoimisto(at)

Participants are also encouraged to keep a journal for two weeks before the course, spending 5-10 minutes a day describing (in English) 3 things seen, heard, felt, smelled and/or tasted in the previous 24 hours—a journal of sensory experience. Details from these journals may then be used in the writing exercises during the course.
